Olé

Just a quick update:

The school play, Romeo and Juliet, will have its first matinee this Thursday at 11 am. Not many actors are very enthusiastic about this year's production, what with the long run time, quantity of lines, unusual staging, and scheduling conflicts. However, I think the final product will make our efforts worthwhile. Even if you're not a fan of Billy Shakes, the sight of Yes as Lord Capulet and Toma as Friar Lawrence are highly entertaining (If their costumes don't entertain you, I guess their acting is the next best thing).

And just to redeem myself for a lack of posting:

The mime show went fine
Hide and Go seek is a sweet game
Kurt Vonnegut died (So it goes)
As did many at Virgina Tech
Ze finished the show
We all lose our minds occasionally
This summer will be an original
And the beat goes on

"mmm, flem"

Laptops in US History + Substitute = blog post

With spring break just around the corner, I think this week just represents one big hurdle for most people. Papers, quizzes, portfolios, tests. I've got an odd little cold at the moment as well, so I'm kinda looking at my body like I do my school work. As long as I keep blowing my nose and popping sudaphed, it'll all clear up in the morning.

Oh, and in case you haven't heard:

"Iowa?"

The mountaintop rises 12,000 feet above the ocean
A breeze blows, the snow falls
All you see is the dark grey sky and the white ground.
The treeline is far below
Before you lies a seemingly endless expanse of fresh powder.
You strap into your board,
lower your goggles,
and turn to your friend.
He nods.

You ride.

"Shh"

Although I don't consider my life to be incredibly exciting to those around me, 2007 has proved to be an amazing year so far.

-Planned a college visit with my mom for Harvey Mudd over spring break
-Bombed a final
-Snowboarded for the first time (as fun as it was painful)
-Filed my W-2 form
-Had my mindset completely changed by the book "The Tao of Pooh"
-Dropped Track and replaced it with Iaido / Rugby (maybe)
-Advanced to the All-State level for group mime (as did many a blogger in this little clique)
-Lost my miniature Buddha and my prized red converse shoes
-Rediscovered my love for Red Delicious Apples

And the beauty of it all is I finally realized I can live the life I seek without being super busy, over-scheduled, or under-rested. I concentrated on "saving time" in the fall, not realizing it is impossible to do so. I can't store little moments in a jar and enjoy them later. With so many appointments, assignments, deadlines and due dates, I found I couldn't be as mindful, calm, or caring as I would have liked. So to all of you whom I turned away from or overlooked in the last several months (especially you, Yes), I humbly apologize. Among my new year's resolutions, I'm adding "to quiet the mind".

And now I'm off to sleep very, very deeply.

"Wrongful death, schmongful death"

This is why I shouldn't work on mock trial at 2 am.

Anyway, while I was typing up my direct questions for one of the witnesses, I realized something. Almost no one fits neatly into one clique. Here I was in my Active Endeavors T-shirt with my running shoes listening to the soundtrack from the spring mime show and reading a bunch of legal jargon. It made me chuckle to myself.

I'm a mock trial / running / out door's club / drama / NRA type.

I know a radio / drama / film type guy and a band / flogging molly / harry potter type girl. We hang out with tennis / ex-debater / hawkeye guy and sometimes we watch movies / eat Mexican food / drive around.

You get the idea.

The more I thought about it, the more I came to think that a lot of "jerks", "nerds", and "weirdos" often only have one type going for them. Like football guy or science girl.

Now I'm not claiming there aren't well rounded ass holes in the world (excuse the pun). In fact, I'm positive there are. I'm also not trying to put forth a brilliant theory. I think we've all noticed this phenomenon in our lives, especially in high school. But for some reason, the idea just became more concrete for me this morning.

Happy MLK day.

"Ewww, improvements"

Some highlights from my '07 resolutions

1. Meditate daily

3. Take Ukulele lessons

4. Stop biting my fucking nails

5. Swear less

8. Always have a mime skit worth sharing on Sundays (no boom check mates)

11. Snowboard on something bigger than my driveway.

14. Buy the complete works of William Shakespeare

14.1 Read it and live to tell the tale...or at least quote it

15. Design a "Billy Shakes is my Homeboy" T-shirt on threadless.com

**Edit: I finished part of number 14 at Borders today with the help of two gift cards, my grandma money, and my aunt donna money. I'm currently on page 12 of 1,751.

And there you have it. I'm completely and utterly resolved to follow this list. Or at least, I was when I wrote it.

Happy New Year everybody.
